There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is banned. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
